IIP Education

The SIIM IIP Education Advisory Network (EAN)

SIIM formed the IIP EAN in 2007 as a subcommittee of the SIIM Education Committee. It is comprised of SIIM members who are educators from the United States and Canada. All members have signed a EAN Participant Benefit, Eligibility, and Guideline Statement. The list of SIIM EAN participants can be found on the Committee section of the SIIM website.

The expansive and ambitious goals and responsibilities of this subcommittee as defined by the EAN members are to:

  • Create a core curriculum, beginning with development of overall learning objectives and outlines, for each of the 10 domains as defined by the ABII Test Content Outline;
  • Build a body of knowledge to define the IIP profession;
  • Devise a model curriculum and guide that can serve as a standard against which educational programs can be compared;
  • Develop ways to test knowledge and understanding, not just test competency for certification; and
  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to facilitate growth in competency and professionalism of IIPs.

IIP Learning Objectives

SIIM and the collaborative EAN team are pleased to announce the completion of the overall educational learning objectives for each of the 10 domains of the ABII test content outline. SIIM would like to acknowledge this first and significant accomplishment of an outstanding group of educators. In 2008, the task of the EAN is to drill down 1 to 3 levels deeper than the ABII TCO outline and create a knowledge-based outline using the educational learning objectives as the basis.
